Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision to North Carolina.

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team, ranked 30th nationally, dropped a 3-1 decision to North Carolina Tuesday night at Jervey gym. The Tar Heels took a 15-5, 11-15, 15-13, 15-4 victory to hand the Tigers their first home loss of the season.

After losing the first game 15-5, Clemson battled back to take a 15-11 win in game two. The Tigers were unable to hold on for the victory, losing their first ACC matchup of the season.

Stephanie Schultz led the Tigers with a .409 hitting percentage (10 kills, one error, 22 attempts). Freshman Jodi Steffes had 15 kills, three errors and 35 attempts for a .343 attack percentage. Meredith Kirtland hit .500 for the evening with nine kills, one error and 16 total attempts. She also recorded 12 digs to lead Clemson, while junior Cindy Stern had nine blocks for the Tigers.

North Carolina (13-3, 2-0 ACC) was led by Shannon Smith, who recorded a .444 hitting percentage off 14 kills, two errors and 27 attempts. Casey Simpson led the Tar Heels with 15 digs, and Tori Seibert had six blocks. Setter Erin Berg recorded 61 assists in the match.

Clemson (9-4, 2-1 ACC) will travel to Virginia Friday for a 7 p.m. match before playing at Maryland Saturday at 5 p.m.
