Virginia Tech Defeats Clemson 4-3

CLEMSON, SC – Virginia Tech’s Luka Somen defeated Yannick Maden at number one singles 6-2, 6-3 in clinching the match and leading the Hokies to a 4-3 win over Clemson in a men’s Atlantic Coast Conference tennis match at Clemson, SC Saturday.

Virginia Tech improves to 9-10 overall and 5-4 in the ACC. Clemson falls to 8-12 overall, and 4-5 league action.

After losing the doubles point. Clemson’s Hunter Harrington beat Mauricio Antun 6-2, 6-2 at number-five singles tying the match at 1-1.

At number-three singles, Patrick Dacik put the Hokies back in the lead with a win over Clemson’s Ayrton Wibowo 6-1, 6-3.

However, the Tigers tied the score again when Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci of Virginia Tech retired with an injury in his match against Dom Maden at number-four singles.

Virginia Tech won the next two matches to claim the team victory. The Hokies’ Lucas Oliveira defeated Gerardo Meza 6-4, 6-4 at number-two singles and Somen won over Yannick Maden.

Clemson’s Zachary Rigsby won the final match of the day as he defeated Trpimir Kujundzic 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 making the final score 4-3 in Virginia Tech’s favor.

The Tigers opened the match in honoring the teams only senior Wes Moran. Moran is a marketing major that has been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll three times during his career.
