Virginia Downs Tigers in Three Sets

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Clemson Volleyball team fell in three sets (25-18, 25-19, 25-16) to Virginia in Memorial Gymnasium Friday evening. Alyssa Deloney led the Tigers’ effort with six kills and four total blocks, including one solo.

Clemson and UVA were tied, 14-14, to open the first set, but the Cavaliers finessed a 6-2 run to close out the opening frame. Virginia carried its momentum into set No. 2, securing an early 10-4 lead. The Tigers’ posted four unanswered late in the game to cut their deficit to four points, 19-13, but Virginia claimed back-to-back points to take the set and a 2-0 lead heading into the break. Clemson trailed by three, 12-15, in the middle of the third, but then the Cavaliers held Clemson to just four points, claiming the set and match.

With the win, Virginia improved to 11-15 overall and 3-10 in ACC play.
