Tyson Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

First Tiger CSC Academic All-District Honoree since 2012

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson forward Hunter Tyson (Monroe, N.C./Piedmont) has been named to the 2022-23 Academic All-District Men’s Basketball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, which recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

Tyson is now eligible for Academic All-America honors. The three-team Academic All-Americans will be announced in mid-March. Clemson’s most recent Academic All-American in men’s basketball was Bobby Conrad, a third-team selection in 1980.

Tyson, a three-time All-ACC Academic Team selection, has started all 27 games for the Tigers this season and leads in scoring and rebounding at 15.3 points per game and 9.4 rebounds per contest.

He has compiled 12 double-doubles this season which is good for second in the ACC and 14th nationally. Tyson has averaged 8.0 defensive rebounds per game – first in the ACC and fourth in the country. His total rebounds (253) are fifth in the conference and 29th nationally.

Tyson has netted double figure scoring 24 times and double-digit rebounds on 13 occasions. He scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds in a win over NC State. It was the first 30-15 game for a Tiger since Horace Grant in 1987.

The Monroe, N.C. native was named ACC Player of the Week for his performance against the Wolfpack on Dec. 30. He was honored on Jan. 2 by the league. He was also named to the 2023 Naismith Hall of Fame Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Top 10 and the USBWA Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List.
