Michael Collins and Gerald McCloud, receivers on the Clemson football team the last two years, will not return for the 2005 season.
Collins has decided to give up football due to a degenerative hip problem and will become a student assistant coach for the Clemson program. McCloud has decided to transfer to another school at the end of the academic year.
Collins, a native of Commerce, GA, had one more year of eligibility. A transfer from Tennessee, Collins played in all 11 games last year, one as a starter, and caught eight passes for 84 yards. He had a team best 6-64 receiving in the win over Utah State and was named the offensive player of the game by the Clemson coaches in the Tiger homecoming victory. Collins played in all 13 games in 2003 and had four catches for 49 yards.
McCloud, from Jacksonville, FL, played in 10 games as a red-shirt freshman in 2003 and four games last year as a wide receiver. He did not have a reception in those 14 games. He red-shirted the 2002 season at Clemson.
