Trustees Approve Construction Contract

March 22, 2000

Clemson, S.C.-The Clemson University Board of Trustees today (March 22) approved a $1.6 million contract for improvements to the east end zone of Memorial Stadium.

Meeting by telephone, the trustees awarded the contract to Sherman Construction Company Inc. of Greenville.

The project is the first phase of a larger plan for various football stadium renovations.

The work in the east end zone will include regrading the area, modifying the handicapped seating section, building a brick and wrought iron fence and entry gate, and installing a new sound system.

The east end zone includes “The Hill,” a grassy slope that is the site of one of Clemson’s most cherished traditions. The football team runs down The Hill to get onto the playing field at the start of each home game. The Hill will continue to be preserved and will not be harmed by the renovation work.
