Trio of Tigers Named ITA Scholar-Athletes

TEMPE, Ariz. – Freshmen Teodor Giusca and Jacob Jahn, and sophomore Yizhou Liu were each recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as ITA Scholar-Athletes for the 2018-19 season. This marks the first time since 2014 that a Clemson men’s tennis player has been honored with the award.

 

Liu, a Nanjing, China native, posted an overall career record of 24-17 in singles action this season. In June, Liu was named to the Clemson University President’s list for his achievements in the classroom.

 

In his first season with the Tigers, Giusca went 9-13, playing anywhere from one to four singles. Jahn tallied a 7-10 record in 2018-19, alternating between No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Giusca and Jahn earned were named to the Clemson’s Dean’s List in June.

 

About the Award

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
