Clemson, S.C. – The Clemson Track & Field program will be represented at two meets during the final weekend of regular season competition. Rebekah Smith will represent the Tigers at the LSU Twilight on Feb. 21 as she competes in the women’s 60 meter dash. A contingent of Tigers will compete at the USC Indoor Open on Feb. 22 in Columbia, S.C.
“We are giving another opportunity to a few athletes that are close to qualifying for ACC’s, while also trying to get Rebekah (Smith) an NCAA mark,” said Mark Elliott, who serves as the Director of Track & Field at Clemson.
When Smith competes in the semifinals of the women’s 60 meters, scheduled to run at 3:10 p.m. (CST), she will be going against the top-two collegiate women 60 meter hurdlers and a trio of professionals who have combined to win 11 NCAA National Championships.
Smith will look to run a time that’ll earn her a spot at the NCAA Indoor National Championships, set to be held on March 13-14 in Albuquerque, N.M. Entering the weekend, the “last time in” for the women’s 60 meter dash is 7.25 seconds.
A contingent of Tigers will take to the track in Columbia, as the team will compete at the Carolina Indoor Facility for the second time this season. Clemson will be represented in women’s distance events, short sprints and the pole vault on Saturday.
