Track & Field Adds Three to 2021 Recruiting Class

CLEMSON, S.C. — The Clemson track and field program has added three student-athletes to its 2021 recruiting class, Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Mark Elliott announced on Thursday. The Tigers’ 2021 recruiting class now consists of seven members, as the program announced the signing of four student-athletes back on Dec. 14, 2020. Two members of the signing class, Antoinette van der Merwe and Areya Campbell, are already a part of the program after joining the team in January.

 

Marie Forbes • Throws

Hayes, Jamaica • Vere Tech HS / Cloud CC

Marie Forbes is set to arrive in Clemson after establishing herself as one of the top JUCO throwers over the past two seasons… has collected 13 victories across her two years of competition with Cloud Community College… during the 2021 NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Forbes finished second in the shot put (14.43m), second in the discus (51.47m), and fifth in the hammer throw (49.66m)… at the 2021 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Forbes finished second in the shot put (13.48m) and third in the weight throw (17.90m)… during the 2020 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Forbes finished seventh in the shot put and tenth in the weight throw… helped Cloud CC capture its first indoor Region VI title in 40 years this past season… was named KJCCC Field Athlete of the Week on April 26, 2021 after her competition at the Emporia State University Midwest Classic… has competed indoors for two seasons and outdoors for one while at Cloud CC… Forbes will arrive at Clemson with personal bests of 14.43m (47-4.25) in the shot put, 51.47m (168-10) in the discus, 51.39m (168-7) in the hammer throw, and 18.67m (61-3) in the weight throw.

 

Mackenzie Osher • Sprints

Coconut Creek, Fla. • North Broward Preparatory

Mackenzie Osher is set to enter her time at Clemson as a versatile sprinter with range from 100 to 400 meters… won the 2021 FHSAA Class 2A State Championship for 200m after running 24.38 seconds… finished within the top-2 of the 100m, 200m, and 400m during the 2021 FHSAA 2A Region 4 meet… has collected 11 victories across the 100m, 200m, 400m, and long jump during the 2021 outdoor season… was a recipient of North Broward Prep’s 2020 Iron Eagle Award, an honor given annually to the two students who show the greatest commitment to their overall athletic development… was a competitive cheerleader for eight years before shifting her focus solely to track and field in September 2020… Osher is set to enter her time at Clemson with personal bests of 11.94 for 100m, 24.07 for 200m, 54.72 for 400m and 5.39m (17-8.25) in the long jump.

 

Kenya Thompson • Sprints

Lauderdale Lakes, Fla. • American Heritage HS

Kenya Thompson is set to arrive at Clemson as a talented long-sprint specialist from American Heritage HS… at the 2018 Louie Bing Classic, Thompson won the 400m by running a personal best of 54.34 seconds… ran sub-56 in her two quarter-mile races during the 2021 outdoor season… was a part of American Heritage’s 4x400m and 4x800m relay at the FHSAA 3A State Track & Field Championships, helping the teams respectively finish second and third… during the 2019 outdoor season, Thompson finished fifth in the 400m during the FHSAA State Track & Field Championships after running 55.39… finished third overall in the 400m during the 2018 FHSAA 2A Track & Field Championships… Thompson will arrive at Clemson carrying personal bests of 25.00 for 200m and 54.34 for 400m.
