Track and Field Teams To Travel To NCAA Championships

CLEMSON, SC– The fifth ranked Clemson Tiger men’s track and field team along with the Lady Tiger women’s team will be traveling to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 13-14. The Tigers, who have 11 athletes competing this weekend, are taking the largest group of participants that Clemson has ever taken to indoor nationals. The Tigers finished 25th last year at the NCAA Championships while the Lady Tigers placed 50th at nationals.

Competing for the Tigers in the 200m dash will be sophomore Shawn Crawford, who is currently ranked third in the nation with a time of 20.76. In the 55m high hurdles three Clemson athletes will be taking part in the event- seventh ranked senior Greg Hines, 14th ranked freshman Sultan Tucker and senior Jeremichael Williams, who is ranked 15th nationally. The Tigers will be the only team in the country to bring both their distance medley relay and 4x400m relay teams. Running in the ninth ranked DMR will be jumior Matt Tooman, senior Aaron Haynes, junior Davidson Gill, and junior Esteban Diaz. The 4x400m relay, which is currently ranked eighth nationally, will have sophomore Charles Allen, junior Davidson Gill, senior Aaron Haynes, and junior Kenny Franklin competing in the event.

As for the Lady Tigers senior Simone Tomlinson, who is currently ranked 14th in the country, will be taking part in the 55m dash. Dual event athlete Nikkie Bouyer, a junior who is ranked 13th in the nation in the 55m high hurdles and ninth in the 200m dash, will be participating in the 200m dash with teammate Shekera Weston, a sophomore who is 17th in the nation. The only Lady Tiger to race in the 400m dash is 19th ranked senior Samantha Watt. The women’s 4x400m relay team of freshman Lashonda Cutchin, Samantha Watt, Nikkie Bouyer and Shekera Weston will be competing in the fifth ranked event.

This weekend will conclude the Indoor Track and Field season. The Tigers and Lady Tigers will start the outdoor season with a home meet on March 20th and 21st at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex.
