Greenville, S.C. – The Tiger women’s tennis squad wrapped up its weekend of play at the Debbie Southern Furman Invitational following a final round of singles on Sunday morning. Freshman Ali DeSpain, junior Laura Marti and senior Sydney Riley each tallied a team-best 2-1 record in singles over the course of the weekend. As a team, the Tigers finished the tournament 8-10 in singles and 4-5 in doubles.
On the final day of competition, DeSpain picked up a 7-5, 6-3 win over Gamecock Gabi Asensi. Junior Laura Marti also took home a hard-fought victory over Sophia Patel of North Carolina, defeating the Tar Heel 6-7, 7-6, 1-0 (10-7).
The Tigers are back in action again next weekend as they head to Malibu, California for the ITA Masters.
