WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Clemson Tigers wrapped up the second day of competition at the ACC Outdoor Championships as eight athletes advanced past the preliminary round of their respective events and are set to represent Clemson in the finals.
Including the athletes who advanced during Thursday’s prelims, 13 total Tigers have secured spots in the final round of their events.
Following day two, the women have three total points as Shantae Foreman finished sixth overall in the long jump to be named Second Team All-ACC and helped get the Tigers on the point board. The women sit at 15th overall while the men have not tabbed any points to make it to the leaderboard.
Meet Highlights
- In the women’s heptathlon, Emma Fortuna secured a personal best of 4599 points.
- Shantae Foreman finished sixth overall in the long jump with a mark of 5.97m to be named Second Team All-ACC.
- In the men’s decathlon, Henry Gainer finished with a season’s best of 6132 points and Paris Husic recorded a personal best finish of 6051 points.
- Drake Risser recorded a new personal best in the men’s pole vault as he cleared 4.91m.
- Oneka Wilson secured a spot in the finals of the 100 meter hurdles after finishing first in her heat and running the fastest time of the day at 13.23
- Sharvis Simmonds is headed to the finals of the 110 meter hurdles after finishing with a personal best time of 13.80 in the prelims
- After finishing first in her heat with a time of 53.58, Shanque Williams is officially headed to tomorrow’s finals of the 400 meters
- Aniyah Kitt secured a spot in the women’s 100 meter finals after running the second fastest time of the day at 11.31
- Ian Johnson ran the fastest time of the day in the men’s 100 meters at 10.22, a new personal best for him as he secured a spot in the finals
- In the women’s 800 meters both Gladys Chepngetich and Brynne Sumner advanced to the finals as they both recorded top times. Sumner’s time of 2:02.81 is a new personal best and improves her top ten time
- Brian Kweyei secured a spot in the finals of the men’s 800 as he ran the fastest time of the day at 1:48.29
- In the women’s 3000 meter steeplechase, both Lowa Branth and Maddie Dinneen recorded personal bests as Branth ran 10:15.55 to improve her No. 3 time and Dinneen ran 10:22.21 to improve her No. 4 time
The Tigers will prepare for the third and final day of the ACC Championships as competition wraps up tomorrow, Saturday, May 17 with the men’s discus kicking things off at 2 p.m. ET.
