San Juan, Puerto Rico — The Clemson women’s tennis squad traveled to Puerto Rico over the weekend to compete in the Puerto Rico Fall Classic hosted by the University of Georgia. Four Tigers made the trip to compete as individuals and compiled a combined singles record of 1-11 and a doubles record of 2-2.
On Friday, doubles pair Laura Marti and Eleni Louka delivered the lone win of the day for the Tigers, winning 8-5 over Vanderbilt’s Dasha Kourkina/Emma Kurtz. In singles, Sydney Riley took the first set, 6-4, against Vivian Wolff of Georgia but the Bulldog battled back to earn the 2-1 decision.
The Tigers earned their first singles win of the fall on Saturday when Laura Marti downed Wake Forest’s Maddie Lynch in straight sets. Though Clemson was supposed to compete in doubles on Saturday afternoon, the competition was cancelled due to rain.
In the final day of competition, the Tiger combo Louka/Riley defeated Wake Forest’s Omirou/Meredith 8-4. In singles, Clemson went 0-4 against opponents from Vanderbilt.
