CLEMSON, S.C. – It took just under two hours for the Clemson women’s tennis team to earn a 5-2 victory over NC State on Sunday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The Tigers remained unbeaten in conference play with the win, improving to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the ACC. The Wolfpack fell to 6-3 overall and 0-2 in ACC play with the loss.
The Tigers made quick work of the Wolfpack in doubles play, winning at No. 2 and No. 3 for the fourth-consecutive match. Tristen Dewar and Ally Miller-Krasilnikov won first at No. 2, 6-1, followed by Joana Eidukonyte and Daniela Ruiz, also winning by a score of 6-1, at No. 3. Eidukonyte and Ruiz are now 4-0 on the season in doubles play.
Miller-Krasilnikov continued her strong play into singles, picking up a 6-0, 6-3 victory at the No. 4 position. Ayan Broomfield and Fernanda Navarro earned the next two points for the Tigers, winning at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively, both players extending their singles winning streaks to four matches. Broomfield, ranked 50th nationally, defeated 63rd-ranked Martina Frantova of NC State by a score of 6-6-2, 6-4 in the top singles slot. Navarro’s 6-2, 7-6(3) victory gave Clemson a 4-1 advantage and clinched the team victory. Eidukonyte recorded the final point for the Tigers, defeating her Wolfpack opponent 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
Clemson hits the road for its next two matches, facing Boston College first, on Friday, March 4 at 5 p.m. in Dedham, Mass. On Sunday, March 6, the Tigers take on Virginia at 12 p.m. in Charlottesville.
