Tigers Win Fifth Straight With 5-2 Victory Over Maryland On Sunday

COLLEGE PARK, MD – The middle of the Clemson lineup remained solid as Ani Mijacika, Estefania Balda and Federica van Adrichem each won her fifth straight singles match, leading the eighth-ranked Tigers to a 5-2 victory over #67 Maryland in College Park, MD on Sunday afternoon.

Clemson improved to 11-2 overall and 3-0 in against ACC opponents, while the Terps fell to 7-6 on the year and 1-2 in conference action.

Mijacika and van Adrichem, ranked #12 in the Fila/ITA Tennis doubles poll, posted an 8-4 victory over Michael Amir and Maggie MacKeever at the flight one position. The Tiger tandem now owns a 9-2 record during the spring season. Clemson’s team of Maria Brito and Alexandra Luc won its 10th dual match and 13th overall with an 8-6 victory over Lisa Miller and Elyse Steiner at the third spot to give the Tigers the 1-0 lead in the match.

Estefania Balda fell at flight two to the Maryland duo of Marianna Baker and Brook Rogers, 8-2.

Mijacika posted a three-set victory over Amir at the number two singles position (6-2, 6-7, 6-2) to improve to 10-2 in the spring. Balda then defeated Steiner at flight three in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, while van Adrichem also won her 10th match of the dual season, claiming a 7-6, 7-5 decision against MacKeever at number four. Brito then recorded Clemson’s final victory of the afternoon, defeating Miller at flight six by a 6-4, 6-2 margin.

The Terps’ two points came at the flights one and five positions as Baker defeated Salge, 6-3, 6-0 and Rogers won over Ina Hadziselimovic (6-4, 1-6, 10-3), respectively.

The Tigers will return to the court next Sunday, Mar. 18, as they will face Troy University in Charleston, SC.
