Tigers Travel to Jacksonville for UNF Invitational

Meet Central

CLEMSON, S.C. — Five members of the Clemson track and field program are set to travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for the UNF Invitational which will take place from April 29-30. The competition on the Visit Jax Track in Hodges Stadium will allow Clemson to preview this year’s venue for the 2021 NCAA East Preliminary Rounds that are scheduled to be contested from May 27-29.

Laurie Barton will represent the Tigers during Thursday’s session, as the Clemson native is set to compete in the opening heat of the women’s 1,500 meters at 8:10 p.m. Barton enters the weekend as the fourth-fastest athlete in Clemson history for the event after running 4:18.56 during the FSU Relays on March 26. Last time out, Barton became No. 2 all-time at Clemson in the women’s 800m by running 2:01.57 during the UCF Knights Invite, a mark which served as the second-fastest of her career. The elite performance in Orlando allowed for Barton to be named the ACC’s Women’s Track Performer of the Week earlier on Wednesday.

On Friday, Clemson will have Lakeisha Warner, Ken’Naria Gadson, Nicolee Foster and Kamryn McIntosh take to the track for the women’s 4x400m relay at 4:20 p.m. The quartet will arrive in Jacksonville with heaps of momentum after coming together to run a season’s best time of 3:37.02 last weekend in Orlando. Last weekend’s mark currently ranks fourth-best within the Atlantic Coast Conference.
