Tigers Top Western Carolina

Clemson, S.C. — In its first outdoor match this season, the Clemson women’s tennis team (3-2, 0-0 ACC) handed Western Carolina (2-1, 0-0 SoCon) its first loss of the season, 7-0. 

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead by winning the doubles points at lines one (6-1) and three (6-3). Jenna Thompson earned the first singles point of the match with a, 6-2, 6-4, victory at No. 1. Sophia Hatton captured Court 3, 6-1, 6-3, and Mackenzky Middlebrooks clinched the match on Court 2, 6-0, 6-4. Additionally, Cristina Mayorova won Court 4 (6-3, 6-1), Lana Sipek took Court 6 (6-3, 6-3) and Makayla Mills finished off the match on Court 5 (6-3, 7-5).

Notes:

  • The Tigers improve to 2-0 all-time against Western Carolina
  • Jenna Thompson (5-0) and Makayla Mills (3-0) remain undefeated in singles in dual match play
  • It marks the first time this season that each of the Tigers won their matches in straight sets
