Clemson, S.C. — The T-44 Clemson men’s tennis team (6-7, 1-4 ACC) defeated Mercer (3-9, 1-0 SoCon), 4-0, on Sunday afternoon.

Carlos Kelaidis and Andrew Puscas won the first match of the day on the second doubles court without dropping a game. The Tigers secured the doubles point at No. 1 singles as Ryuhei Azuma and Spencer Whitaker held on to win 6-4 at line one to remain undefeated as a pair.

In his first career match at No. 1 singles, Kelaidis made quick work of his opponent, winning 6-3, 6-0 to extend the Clemson lead. Whitaker took Court 3, 7-6, 6-2, and Jorge Plans Gonzalez followed closely behind with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5.

Of Note:

  • The Tigers improve to 5-2 all-time against Mercer
  • Ryuhei Azuma and Spencer Whitaker remain undefeated in doubles this season, posting 5-0 marks
  • Carlos Kelaidis earns his first career win at No. 1 singles
  • Spencer Whitaker and Jorge Plans Gonzalez each open three-match win streaks and improve to 7-2 and 7-3 in singles, respectively

The Tigers are on the road next weekend where they will face Virginia Tech and No. 4 Virginia on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
