Tigers Take Eight Wins on Final Day of Knights Invite

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Clemson track and field program concluded a sensational weekend at the Knights Invite on Saturday with eight event victories. This on the heels of a Friday performance that featured a school record performance and six event victories.

Following her record-setting discus throw on Friday, Marie Forbes won the hammer throw on Saturday with a launch of 60.35 meters. Her male counterpart Daniel Cope also won the hammer throw with a mark of 53.44 meters. Freshman Ryan John earned a victory in the men’s triple jump with a 15.24 meter leap.

Jevon Williams, who won the 400 meter hurdles on Friday, won the 110 meter hurdles on Saturday with a 14.01 second time. De’Andre Anderson won the 400 meter run in 46.05 seconds.

Wanya McCoy and Cameron Rose finished first and second, respectively, in the 100 meter dash. McCoy ran a personal best 10.30 to win the race while Rose trailed just behind with a time of 10.36.

Victor Ndiwa dominated the field in the 3000 meter run, finishing the race in 8:30.19. The second place finisher crossed the line over 30 seconds later.

The men’s and women’s 1600 meter relay each won, as the men’s team of Tarees Rhoden, De’Andre Anderson, Aman Thornton and Jevon Williams ran a 3:05.55. The women’s team comprised of Courtney Williams, Lashanna Graham, Antoinette Van der Merwe and KK Gadson took the crown with a time of 3:37.14.

While this was only the second outdoor meet of the season for the Tigers, Program Director Mark Elliott’s squad seems to be rounding into midseason form.

The Tigers will be back in action next week when they travel to the prestigious Texas Relays on Wednesday, Mar. 29 through Saturday, Apr. 1.
