Tigers Take Down No. 19 Georgia Tech in Hoopin’ For Hope Pink Game

  • Tigers claimed their second Top-20 win of the season (No. 20 Cal on Jan. 2)
  • It was Clemson’s highest-ranked win since beating No. 7/6 Virginia Tech on Dec. 29, 2022.
  • Maddi Cluse scored 14 points, her fourth consecutive game in double-figures. She was 4-6 from behind the arc and is now 12-18 from three-point range in her past four games.

  • Clemson hit nine of its 20 three-point attempts, bringing the season total to 188 makes, fourth-most in school history.

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Women’s Basketball team (12-13, 5-9 ACC) defeated No. 19 Georgia Tech (20-5, 8-5 ACC), 68-61, in a game in which the Tigers led for more than 34 minutes on Thursday night in Littlejohn Coliseum. Clemson earned its second home top-20 win of the season under first-year Head Coach Shawn Poppie, as the Tigers knocked off No. 20 Cal on Jan. 2. Clemson debuted its gray and pink alternate uniforms during their annual Hoopin’ for Hope game, which brings attention to cancer research. 

Tessa Miller led the team in scoring with 18 points, followed by Maddi Cluse who notched 14 points with four three-pointers. Hannah Kohn also finished the game with 13 points and tied a team-high of four three-pointers. 

Clemson held Georgia Tech to only 61 points, which is their second-lowest scoring game throughout this season with their loss to Duke being the season’s lowest scoring game with 50 points. The Tigers led by 11 points at the half (37-26), and held a 15-point advantage early in the third quarter.

Clemson led 14-12 after the first quarter as Cluse led the way with two three-pointers, and Georgia Tech shot just 5-14 (.357) in the frame. The game did not tie, but the game did accumulate three lead changes overall with the biggest lead being 15 points (43-28) within the third quarter. Tessa Miller with two made field goals followed by Kohn’s two made three-pointers pushed the Tigers forward in the Third.

Early in the fourth quarter, Clemson’s Hannah Kohn made a four-point play with a made three plus the foul by Georgia Tech’s Kara Dunn. Georgia Tech and Clemson traded field goals and three-point shots throughout the fourth quarter. But Kohn’s fourth three-pointer of the day with 3:49 to play after Tech had cut the lead to eight gave Clemson the breathing room to finish out the game.
