CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Tigers (5-0) dismantled the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (0-2) on Friday afternoon by a final score of 6-1. The Tigers took the doubles point and never relinquished control of the match, ultimately earning the victory and remaining undefeated headed into the team’s first road trip on Sunday.
Cristina Mayorova and Dani Medvedeva won their doubles match 6-3, and just moments later Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain came out on the positive end of a long rally on Court 3 that concluded with a backhanded Buyckx winner down the right side of the court, giving Clemson the doubles point.
Jenna Thompson made quick work on Court 4, winning her matchup 6-0, 6-2 and putting the Tigers up 2-0. Lana Sipek picked up a convincing 6-0, 6-3 win on Court 6, while Louka, Mayorova and Medvedeva each battled for victories.
Louka and Medvedeva each stayed undefeated in singles on the season, advancing to 4-0 and 5-0, respectively. Buyckx and DeSpain’s doubles point-clinching victory pushed Buyckx to 5-0 in doubles play in her first campaign as a Tiger.
“I thought we played our best doubles point of the year so far,” remarked Head Coach Christy Lynch. “Everyone was really proud of the way we came out and competed in singles and we’re really excited for the challenge against Auburn on Sunday.”
Up next, the Tigers travel for the first time this spring to take on No. 14 Auburn on Sunday. The match will begin at noon eastern time. A win would see Clemson start its season 6-0 for the first time since 2012.
