Tigers Sweep The Citadel

Clemson, S.C. — The Clemson men’s tennis team (4-1, 0-0 ACC) dominated in its 7-0 win over The Citadel (0-1, 0-0 SoCon) on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers started off the match strong, winning doubles first on Court 2, 6-1, and then Court 1, 6-2, to take the double point. In singles, Teodor Giusca did not drop a game against his opponent at No. 1 to earn a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Yizhou Liu followed closely behind with a 6-2, 6-0 win at line two and Jorge Plans Gonzalez clinched that match on Court 4, 6-2, 6-4. Additionally, Spencer Whitaker (3-6, 6-0, 6-1), Ryuhei Azuma (6-4, 6-4) and Jacob Jahn (6-1, 6-4) notched victories in the match.

Of Note:

  • The Tigers extend their series winning streak to 27 matches against The Citadel
  • Teodor Giusca (5-0), Ryuhei Azuma (5-0) and Spencer Whitaker (4-0) remain unbeaten in singles
  • Teodor Giusca and Spencer Whitaker improve to 3-0 as a doubles pair
  • Former Clemson Head Coach Chuck Kriese returned to Clemson for the sixth time since being named head coach of the Bulldogs
