CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team (8-6, 2-4 ACC) secured its second ranked win of the weekend on Sunday over No. 72 Louisville (7-6, 0-5 ACC) in a 7-0 sweep. The Tigers’ win improved the team to a perfect 8-0 home record.
“Wow!” exclaimed Head Coach Christy Lynch. “Any 7-0 win in the ACC is an amazing effort. The girls really backed up the emotional win on Friday!”
Clemson came out firing on all cylinders, as it claimed the doubles point behind victories from Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain on Court 2 and Cristina Mayorova and Dani Medvedeva on Court 1.
Clemson’s hot start continued into singles play, where five Tigers took the first set of their match. Medvedeva quickly went to work on Court 3, surrendering only one game in a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Sipek was next to act, putting the Tigers up 3-0 with a decisive 6-1, 6-3 win on Court 6. DeSpain, who played hero in Friday’s thrilling upset over No. 35 Notre Dame, followed suit. The junior again cliched the Clemson victory with a 6-3, 6-4 result that secured the second Clemson win over a ranked opponent this weekend.
The remaining three matches were played out, and Mayorova secured a Court 1 victory while Buyckx came from behind on Court 5 to pull off a win. Eleni Louka earned her win on Court 2 to close out the day and give the Tigers their first sweep over an ACC opponent since 2017.
“Everyone competed extremely well today,” said Lynch. “Cristina has been knocking on the door in some big matches and it was so great to see her get the win today. Go Tigers!”
Up next, Clemson will play host to No. 2 NC State on Friday at 5 p.m., followed by a Sunday match against No. 18 Wake Forest, beginning at 4 p.m.
