Tigers Sweep Doubleheader with Western Carolina

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson women’s tennis swept its doubleheader with Western Carolina (1-2) on Saturday, winning each match by a score of 6-1. The Tigers (3-0) advanced to their fourth 3-0 start to the season in the last five years.

In the first match, the Tigers handled Western Carolina with ease, securing the doubles point and winning all but one singles match, each Clemson victory coming in straight sets.

Samantha Buyckx and Sophia Hatton won their doubles match from Court 3 in both matches, but it was the Catamounts who took the doubles point in the back half of the double header. Clemson responded however, as four different Tigers won their singles match in straight sets to ultimately clinch the sweep on the day.

Lana Sipek picked up the first point for the Tigers with a strong 6-2, 6-0 win on Court 5. Jenna Thompson followed just minutes later with a 6-0, 6-1 win that gave Clemson a lead it would never surrender.

Up next, the Tigers have another double header scheduled for Saturday, January 29 with Georgie Southern and South Carolina State. First serve with Georgia Southern is slated for 11 a.m., and the match with SC State will begin at 4 p.m. For all the most up-to-date information regarding Clemson women’s tennis, visit ClemsonTigers.com and follow @ClemsonWTennis on Twitter and Instagram
