CLEMSON, S.C. – The 15th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team defeated the College of Charleston 7-0 on Monday afternoon at the College of Charleston’s Tennis Center at Patriots Point. With the win, the Tigers move to 9-5 on the season while the Cougars fall to 3-11.
In doubles action, Joana Eidukonyte and Daniela Ruiz quickly won 6-2 at No. 3. The big news of the match, however, took place on court one as the top ranked duo of Beatrice Gumulya and Jessy Rompies fell 6-3, breaking their 13-match win streak. The pair is now 22-2 and 10-1 in dual matches on the season. Tristen Dewar and Romy Koelzer won their tightly contested match 7-5 to clinch the doubles point for the Tigers.
In singles action, Yuliynn Miao kept the momentum going with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6. Daniela Ruiz then extended the Tigers’ lead to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5. No. 122 Jessy Rompies clinched the match for Clemson with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4. No. 24 Joana Eidukonyte, No. 43 Romy Koelzer and No. 95 Beatrice Gumulya all followed with wins of their own.
The Tigers return home to face No. 5 Virginia on Friday, March 20 at 11 a.m. at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. Admission is free to all home women’s tennis matches.
