Tigers Sweep College of Charleston, 7-0, In Saturday Women’s Tennis Action

CLEMSON, SC – The 17th-ranked Tiger women’s tennis team opened its 2007 season with a 7-0 sweep over the College of Charleston at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

The home team claimed all three doubles matches, as Carol Salge and Ina Hadziselimovic won an 8-3 decision over Chelsea Albertz and Link Leskosky at the top position. Clemson’s Estefania Balda and Ani Mijacika then defeated Annalee Evans and Holly Dowse at flight two, 8-2, while Maria Brito and Alexandra Luc posted an 8-3 victory against Laura Borza and Maxine Capwell at the number three slot.

Carol Salge retained her position as the Tigers number one singles player, dominating Albertz, 6-0, 6-0, on Sunday. In her first match at Clemson, Balda defeated Leskosky, 7-6(5), 6-1, at flight two, while Mijacika also won a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Evans at the number three position. Hadziselimovic posted a flight four victory against Borza, 6-2, 6-0, and Brito claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win over Capwell at number five. In the flight six match-up, Luc defeated Amanda Becker.

The Tigers will return to action on Sunday afternoon as they will play host to 33rd-ranked South Florida at 12:00 pm.
