Tigers Sign Versatile All-Conference Guard

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson Head Women’s Basketball Coach Shawn Poppie has announced the signing of junior guard Mia Moore.

A 5’6” combo guard from Alpharetta, Ga., Moore joins the Clemson family after spending last season at UAB where she was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Newcomer Team and was named All-Conference Third Team. Moore put together a career year for the Blazers, averaging 15 points, nine rebounds, and three assists per game. Moore played and started in 31 of the Blazers’ 32 games this season, averaging 33 minutes per game, and she shot 46 percent from the floor, 37 percent from outside, and 79 percent from the free throw line on 157 attempts.

Moore ranked in the top five in the AAC in rebounding, field goal and free-throw percentage. She was also in the conference’s top ten in points per game, assists per game, and steals per game. Per Stats Perform, Moore was one of just 25 players in the nation to lead her team in points, points per game, field goal percentage, rebounds, rebounds per game, and steals per game (min. 50% of team games played and at least five made field goals per game).

The talented guard’s season was highlighted by 13 double-doubles – featuring a 27-point 14-rebound effort against Jacksonville State – 26 games scoring in double figures, and eight contests scoring 20 or more points. She set and tied her career high in scoring with 27 against Jacksonville State and Alabama A&M, and recorded a new personal high with 17 boards against Memphis.

Prior to her time at UAB, Moore spent the 2021-22 and ’22-’23 seasons at Mississippi State. She was unable to play in her freshman season due to injury, and played in four games for the Bulldogs in ’22-’23.

In high school, Moore was the no. 52 player in the country and was rated as a four-star recruit. She was an all-state player and led her team to the state championship as a senior.

Moore is the eighth transfer to join the 2024-25 Tigers. There are currently 15 players on Clemson’s roster.

POPPIE’S THOUGHTS

Mia is a wonderful addition to our backcourt. Mia is a combo guard who can play on and off the basketball. She is someone I’ve known for quite some time as I recruited her back during COVID on numerous zoom calls. Although she turned me down two times, the third time was the charm. Mia had a great season this past year at UAB as she was finally healthy and able to show the true version of herself. She has a unique ability to get in the paint off the dribble making plays for herself and others. All while being a tenacious rebounder. I look forward to helping develop her game as the sky is the limit for Mia. With multiple years left, she will play a big part in building our foundation for our program on and off the court.
