Clemson Notes

  • The Tigers and South Carolina will meet for the 65th time in program history and 24th time in Jervey Gym.
  • Clemson and the Gamecocks squared off in this past spring (April 13) in an exhibition match in Jervey Gym. Clemson took the first three sets, 25-19, 25-18, 25-13, before both teams agreed to play a fourth set, which the Gamecocks won, 25-19.
  • The last time South Carolina and Clemson met in the regular season was at the 2018 Gamecock Invitational (Aug. 24-25). South Carolina swept Clemson, 25-21, 25-22, 25-18, at the Carolina Volleyball Center.
  • The Tigers and ninth-ranked Wisconsin will meet for the first time in program history on Saturday at 3 p.m. Wisconsin was ranked as high as No. 4 in the AVCA Coaches Poll this season, but fell in five sets to then-No. 11 Marquette (Sept. 5), which marked the first time ever the Golden Eagles defeated Wisconsin. The next day, the Badgers lost in four sets No. 17 Baylor at the Wisconsin-hosted HotelRED Invitational (Sept. 5-6).
  • Clemson is 13-59 all-time against ranked opponents and 0-11 against top-10 opponents. The highest ranked team Clemson has ever defeated was at then-No. 13 Duke on Oct. 13, 2007. The Tigers won in five sets, 30-23, 30-26, 28-30, 19-30, 15-10.
  • The Tigers are off to a great start behind the service line this season. As of Sept. 9, Clemson ranks 14th in the nation in service aces (2.19/set), also good for an ACC-leading average.
  • Kaylin Korte registered her eighth career double-double – and third of the season – in the Tigers’ sweep over Appalachian State Tuesday in Jervey Gym. Korte, who recorded her first double-double of the season in her first match back from a knee injury that sidelined her for all of last year, rang up 11 kills and 13 digs in Clemson’s second straight win over the Mountaineers.
  • Defensively against App State, Clemson received a nice boost senior Emily Curtis, who got her first nod of the season as the starting libero. Curtis tallied a team-high 17 assists in just three sets played. Up front, freshman middle blocker Ani Clark posted eight blocks, the most among any Tiger in an individual match this season.
  • This season, the Tigers returned three 2018 All-ACC selections in Brooke Bailey (Second Team), Solei Thomas (All-Freshman) and Gabby Easton (All-Freshman), which marked the first time since 2011 Clemson collected three ACC postseason selections.
  • In 2018, Clemson secured two postseason victories, a first in program history, with wins over Alabama A&M and Radford in the NIVC.
