Tigers Roll Past Mustangs 72-46 for Biggest ACC Road Win in Six Years

  • Clemson’s 26-point margin of victory was its largest in an ACC road game since Feb. 16, 2019 when the Tigers beat BC by 33 points. 
  • Loyal McQueen scored 14 points on 7-9 shooting with five assists in the first half, meaning she scored or assisted on 28 of Clemson’s 38 first-half points, or 73.7%; She finished with 21 points and eight assists, accounting for 41 of Clemson’s 72 points (56.9%)
  • McQueen finished with 21 points, her fourth game this season with 20 or more points. 
  • The Tigers knocked in six three-pointers, moving them past the 2010-11 team (191) into third in school history in made three-pointers in a season. Clemson entered the game with 188 made three-pointers. 
  • Hannah Kohn hit two three-pointers, becoming the fourth player in school history to hit 70 or more three-pointers in a season. 
  • Summah Evans scored 14 points, her fifth game this season scoring in double-figures
  • Tessa Miller had 10 rebounds, her fifth game of the season with ten or more rebounds. 

DALLAS – Clemson Women’s Basketball used a 22-4 run during a 6:30 stretch spanning halftime en route to a 72-46 win at SMU (10-16, 2-12 ACC) on Sunday in Moody Coliseum. It marked Clemson’s largest margin of victory in an ACC road game since Feb. 16, 2019, exactly six years ago, when the Tigers won by 33 points at Boston College.

Clemson closed out a 2-0 week in which it defeated No. 19 Georgia Tech 68-61 on Thursday and followed it up with a big road win on Sunday, outscoring SMU 56-28 in the final three quarters.

Graduate guard Loyal McQueen scored or assisted on 41 of Clemson’s 72 points, as she finished with 21 points, going 9-15 from the floor and 3-3 at the line, and dished out eight assists. Summah Evans scored 14 points and Tessa Miller added seven points a ten rebounds. Anya Poole added nine rebounds and tied her career-high with five blocked shots.

SMU led 26-23 with 3:32 to play in the second quarter when the Tigers took over. A 13-0 run behind Addie Porter and McQueen gave Clemson a 10-point advantage, and the Tigers expanded their lead to 45-30 3:32 into the third quarter on Tessa Miller’s basket and foul. Raven Thompson pushed the lead to 20 points with less than a minute to play in the third quarter and Clemson would cruise from there.

Clemson outrebounded the Mustangs 48-24, and the Tigers their 18 offensive rebounds into 18 second chance points.

SMU jumped out to an early 10-2 lead in the first two minutes of the contest before the Tigers clawed back, cutting the deficit to one point just two minutes later, and would trail, 18-16, as the first quarter came to a close. Clemson took its first lead on a three-pointer by Kohn 1:32 into the second quarter. SMU struck back to take a 26-23 lead with 5:29 to play in the half. Clemson clamped down defensively, holding the Mustangs to just one field goal for the rest of the half, while scoring 15 points, including a 13-0 run.

Clemson led 38-28 at halftime as McQueen served as a driver, scoring 14 points on 7-9 shooting and assisted on five baskets, meaning she scored or assisted on 28 of Clemson’s 38 points in the half. Kohn hit two threes in the quarter, giving her 70 on the season.
