Tigers Rally to Sink Commodores

AUBURN, Ala. – In yet another impressive performance, the Clemson men’s tennis team defeated Vanderbilt in the second day of tournament play at the Hidden Dual in Auburn, Alabama.

The Tigers were defeated by the Commodores in doubles, but the solid play from Clemson in singles propelled them to victory.

Teodor Giusca beat Joubert Klopper 6-3, 7-6 (1), Jorge Plans Gonzalez beat #123 Marcus Ferreira 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (1), Yizhou Liu defeated Michael Ross 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, Spencer Whitaker downed Macsen Sisan 6-3, 7-5 and Matthew Pitts beat Max Freeman, 6-1, 6-2.

“It was another very tough and physical match today against Vanderbilt,” said Head Coach Robbie Weiss. “The boys did a great job showing toughness and grit to pull out 5 of 6 matches in singles. We need to finish strong in our team match against Auburn tomorrow, but I am really excited about how the boys have performed thus far against Miami and Vanderbilt.”

The Tigers will close out the Hidden Dual tomorrow as they battle Auburn. Clemson returns home next weekend for the second Clemson UTR tournament at Duckworth Family Tennis Center.
