Clemson, S.C—Turk Pettit finished second and Bryson Nimmer finished fourth to lead Clemson to a second-place finish at the Clemson Invitational at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls in Salem, SC. on Saturday. The 12-team tournament was originally scheduled for 18 holes per day Friday through Sunday, but the teams played 36 holes on Friday when the forecast was ominous for Sunday.
Boston College won the tournament by two shots over the Tigers. Clemson beat the Eagles by six shots on Saturday, but the Eagles had an eight-shot lead entering the final round. Boston College finished with a score of 866, two over par on the par 72 course, while Clemson scored 868. Notre Dame was third at 872. Connecticut was fourth at 883 and SMU was fifth at 884.
Pettit and Nimmer scored rounds of 71 on Saturday to record top four finishes. Pettit finished at 214 to record his fourth straight to three finish, a first for a Clemson freshman. Nimmer finished fourth with a 215 score after rounds of 74-70-71.
Freshman Kyle Cottam had a 73 on Saturday and finished seventh wit ha 218 total, is third top 10 of the year.
Christian Cavaliere of Boston College won the tournament with a 210 score, six under par. It is tied for he second best 54-hole score in the three years of the ACC Tournament.
Clemson’s next tournament will be next weekend at the ACC Tournament at the Old North State Club in New London, NC.
