Macon, Ga. – The Clemson men’s tennis squad came out strong on day one of the Mercer Invitational to earn a combined 6-1 record in singles as senior Pierre-Louis Dodens and sophomore Jacob Jahn each emerged with 2-0 marks.
Competing in Singles Flight A, Dodens took his first-round matchup against Kennesaw State’s Seru Tezuka 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, followed by a 6-3, 6-4 win in the round of 16 over Marcelo Tebet of Florida Gulf Coast. Jahn, who also competed in Singles Flight A, picked up victories over Yavan Lambros of Florida Atlantic and Murphy McCullough of Georgia Southern 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 and 6-2, 7-6 (2), respectively.
After receiving an opening-round bye in Singles Flight B, sophomore Mike Agee went on to defeat Stetson’s Christian Mills, 7-5, 7-5. Meanwhile, senior Carlos Kelaidis went 1-1 on the day, besting KSU’s Mritunjay Bodala 7-6 (2), 6-2 but falling in the round of 16 to Florida Gulf Coast’s Felipe Ramirez 3-6, 6-0, 6-2.
Dodens, Jahn and Agee will each compete in quarterfinal events for their respective singles flights tomorrow morning. In addition, all four Tigers are set to participate in consolation doubles action in the afternoon.
