After Nikki Dixon graduated from Clemson in May 2015, she knew she wanted to continue playing basketball. Dixon was a four-year standout for the Tigers from 2011-2015, recording 1,598 points, 532 rebounds, 276 assists and 235 steals in 118 career games. She finished her career ranked first in school history in free throws made (441) and attempted (627) and her 1,598 points are the fifth most in the history of the program.
In this addition of “Tigers in the Pros,” ClemsonTigers.com caught up with Dixon right before she left the United States to begin her professional basketball career overseas.
Q: What team are you going to be playing for in the upcoming 2015-16 season?
“I will be playing for a basketball club called BC Winterthur.”
Q: What country is the team located in and what league do they play in?
“The club is located in Switzerland and the team plays in the Ligue Nationale de Basket or the Switzerland LNA.”
Q: How did the opportunity to play overseas come about?
“The opportunity to play overseas has been in the back of my mind ever since my college career ended. After my senior season ended, different women’s professional basketball agencies began to have interest in representing me in hopes I would want to continue to play after college. So I met with my agent that I have now and he has been great in the whole process.”
Q: What are you most excited about experiencing in Europe?
“I am so excited to play overseas. I’m most interested in finding out how well I can fit into the club and have an immediate impact for this upcoming season.”
“I’m also excited to meet my new teammates and learn as much culture as I can from them while teaching them mine. The country looks beautiful and I’m so blessed to be able to compete there.”
Q: What will you miss most about the States?
“The United States will always be home for me. I’m leaving my family who I’m extremely close to behind as well as really close friends who I couldn’t imagine being 9 months apart from.”
“As a rookie, you don’t know what to expect so I plan to just embrace the whole experience.”
Q: How will your experience at Clemson help you in your professional basketball career?
“My experience at Clemson will be a significant factor in my professional basketball career. Over the years, the ACC has become the best conference in the NCAA. I competed against some of the best teams, and players in the country during my career. From my freshman year in 2011 to my senior year in 2015 I developed into a better player and made many connections along the way.”
