HOUSTON, TEXAS –Â The Clemson Tigers women’s basketball team is in the Lone Star State for the 2023 Van Chancellor Classic. The Tigers will play against No. 25 Mississippi State on Friday, Tulsa on Saturday, and will close out the tournament against Arkansas – Pine Bluff on Sunday. All three games can be seen on ESPN+ and can be heard live on 105.5 The Roar.
The Tigers are coming off a history 102-63 win against Longwood last Sunday. The win improved CU to 4-1 on the year – Clemson’s best start since 2020 – and the Tigers set or tied several program records along the way. It was the first time since 2009 that Clemson has scored 100+ points in a game. A 33-point first quarter set a new standard as the highest scoring quarter in program history, and the Tigers tied a school record with 14 made three-point shots. Amari Robinson also recorded 8 assists which set a new career high.
Speaking of Robinson, her dominance and efficiency have carried over to her fifth year. She ranks second in the Atlantic Coast Conference in made field goals with 32, and she’s making them with amazing efficiency by shooting nearly 63 percent from the floor.
Tiger transfers have played a major role on the team this season and have accounted for half of the team’s points. Day Harris leads the way for Tiger transfers with 10.6 points per game following her 20-point outburst against Longwood. Maddie Close also contributes 9.6 points per game to the Tigers’ cause.
