Tigers Finish Strong Fourth at Nike Collegiate

Clemson, SC—Bryson Nimmer continued his amazing fall with a final round 65 on Tuesday to lead Clemson to a fourth-place finish out of 15 teams at the Nike Collegiate at famed Colonial Country club in Dallas, Texas.     The Nike Collegiate is one of the top tournaments in the nation and included nine of the top 25 teams in men’s college golf.

Nimmer was attempting to become the first Clemson golfer in history to win three consecutive tournaments.   He moved from 11th place to second with his final round 65 that included a five under par 30 on the back nine.   He made birdie on the last hole, but so did Duke’s Chandler Eaton.  Eaton made a 33-foot putt on the par four 18th hole that measures 441 yards to beat Nimmer by a shot.

Nimmer’s final round 65 was his fourth round at 65 or better this year, already a Clemson season record.   His stroke average through nine rounds this fall is 67.33.  He finished the tournament with 14 birdies to tie for the team lead with Turk Pettit, and Nimmer led the 75-player field in par four scoring at five-under par for the weekend.

Duke won the team title with a score of 838, two under par on the par 70 course that is 7204 yards in length.   Vanderbilt was second at 844 and Wake Forest was third at 846.  The Tigers were fourth at 847.

Turk Pettit and William Nottingham provided great support for Nimmer throughout the 54-hole event that is played at the site of the PGA Tour’s Fort Worth Invitational. Pettit had rounds of 68-69-73 for an even par 210 score in his top performance of the young season.  The sophomore finished 12th overall.

Nottingham , who had a second round 67 to lead the Tigers on Monday, finished with a 71 on Tuesday and shot 211 for the tournament to finish in 15th place.

Sophomore Colby Patton had a 77 on Tuesday and finished with a 226 total for 68th place, while Jacob Bridgeman was the non counter with a 78 on Tuesday.  He did open with solid rounds of 73-72 and finished 55th with a 223 total.

Clemson returns to action October 8-9 at the Jack Nicklaus Collegiate, a match play tournament at Muirfield Country Club in Dublin, Ohio.
