CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson (11-13, 2-10 ACC) carried its momentum over from Thursday night’s epic win into today’s match against Miami, winning the doubles point but couldn’t finish as the Hurricanes (16-8, 5-7 ACC) won, 4-2.
Clemson’s doubles teams continued its hot streak as Spencer Whitaker and Ryuhei Azuma won yet again on Court 1, dominating Miami’s pair in Martin Jalif/Aubone, 6-2. Miami came up with a win of its own on Court 3, winning 6-3, but senior Teodor Giusca and Max Smith were clutch, clinching the doubles point for the Tigers, 6-4 on Court 2.
The Hurricanes battled back in singles, taking the wins on Courts 4, 5 and 6 to increase its lead to 3-1. Jorge Plans Gonzalez pulled the Tigers within one after beating Miami’s Hannestad on Court 3 in three sets, but a win for the Hurricanes on Court 2 sealed the deal for Miami, winning 4-2.
Up next, the Tigers will head to Rome, Ga. for ACC Championships, held at the Rome Tennis Center. Clemson awaits its seeding in the tournament which will be announced on Sunday night.
