Tigers Fifth after First Day at the ACC Tournament

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Clemson stands fifth with 115 points after the first day of competition at the women’s swimming and diving ACC Championships. The meet is being held on the campus of the University of Maryland at College Park. The Lady Tigers had four individual swimmers and a relay team provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships, which will be held March 19th-21st in Athens, GA.

Placing first was Virginia with 252, taking second was North Carolina with 207 and third was Florida State with 147. Ranking fourth was Maryland with a 143, sixth was NC State with 110 and Duke stands s eventh with 24.

In the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay, Clemson finished second and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with a season best time of 1:32.53. The team consisted of Kathy Lowry, Jennifer Mihalik, Meagan Davis and Caroline Peterson.

Lowry also provisionally qualified in the 50-Yard freestyle swimming a personal best time of 23.33, which placed her fourth. Mihalik swam a provisional time of 23.46 for 11th place. Freshman Cami Sink, who holds the Clemson record in the 200-Yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:01.05, placed third in this event swimming a time of 2:01.93.

In the 500-Yard Freestyle, senior Wendy Henson placed fifth with a time of 4:54.37.
