Tigers Fall to Top-25 Florida State Friday

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team lost a 6-1 decision to No. 23 Florida State on Friday, March 2 in a match that was played at Lifetime Fitness in Peachtree Corners, Ga. With the loss, the Tigers, who are ranked 31st nationally, drop to 5-5 (1-2 ACC), while the Seminoles improve to 8-3 (2-1 ACC).

Florida State won the doubles point, with wins at No. 1 and 2. The Tigers’ duo of Fernanda Navarro and Daniela Ruiz defeated the Seminoles 6-3 at No. 3 doubles. The Seminoles clinched the match with wins at No. 3, 5 and 6 singles, in that order. Clemson’s Marie-Alexandre Leduc, Fernanda Navarro and Tate Schroeder split the first two sets at No. 1, 2 and 4 singles, respectively. Leduc went on to win her super tiebreak, 13-11, to claim the win at the top singles spot in the lineup.

The Tigers return to action on Sunday, March 4 for a home match against Miami at the AU Tennis Center in Anderson, S.C. First serve against the Hurricanes is set for 10 a.m.
