CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson University men’s basketball fell 70-65 to Florida State on Saturday afternoon in Littlejohn Coliseum.
The Tigers (20-8, 10-5 ACC) were led by Ace Buckner’s (Dallas, Texas/La Lumiere School (Ind.)
15 points, and also received 13 points from Dillon Hunter (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) and 12 from RJ Godfrey (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett/Georgia).
Despite trailing for 9:41 in the opening stanza, Clemson used a 10-0 run to take a 21-17 lead with 5:31 remaining. In the final 4 minutes of the first period, the lead would change five times. With 11 seconds left in the first half, Hunter drove past the defense and sank a floater to beat the buzzer and lift the Tigers to a 36-33 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, Clemson battled for position and worked to cut the deficit and regain the lead. The Tigers used a 12-3 run sparked by a pair of Butta Johnson (Huntsville, Ala./Grissom/UAB) threes to lead the Seminoles 56-55 with 7:53 remaining in regulation.
Despite forcing 10 turnovers the Tigers were only able to accumulate nine points off of them, including zero second chance points on 10 offensive rebounds.
Clemson shot just 37.5% from the field and 10-for-33 from beyond the arc.
The Tigers return to the court on Saturday Feb. 28, when they host Louisville at 2 p.m. on ESPN2.
