Tigers Fall to No. 9 Virginia

Clemson, S.C. — The Clemson women’s tennis team (9-4, 1-2 ACC) dropped a 6-1 decision against No. 9 Virginia (8-3, 2-1 ACC) on Sunday afternoon. The Hoos secured the doubles point and three straight singles matches to earn the win. In doubles, the line one match between Tate Schroeder/Sydney Riley and No. 41 Amber O’Dell/Chloe Gullickson went unfinished at 5-3 despite the Tigers closing in on a victory. Riley went on to take the lone point of the match for Clemson after coming back from a first set loss to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. Additionally, Eleni Louka and Lana Sipek played well against ranked opponents, forcing extra sets with No. 89 Amber O’Dell and No. 95 Sofia Munera, respectively, but were ultimately defeated.

Of Note:

  • Sydney Riley extends her match winning streak to nine.
  • With the loss, Clemson falls to 37-13 all time against Virginia and 13-6 on the road.
  • Clemson has gone 9-4 to start the last two seasons. Both starts are the program’s best since 2014.

Up Next: The Tigers are back on the road  on Friday when they head to Atlanta, Ga. to take on No. 11 Georgia Tech at 5 p.m.
