NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After opening the season at 2-0 last weekend, the Clemson women’s tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2017 campaign on Friday, falling to Kansas 4-1 in the first round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Nashville, Tenn. The Tigers are now 2-1 on the season, while the Jayhawks improve to 2-0.
Kansas won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 2, in that order. Constanza Gorches and Daniela Ruiz led their No. 3 doubles match 5-3 at the time play was suspended.
Sophomore Marie-Alexandre Leduc, ranked 84th in singles by the ITA, won her No. 2 singles match in convincing fashion, 6-1, 6-2, to tie the score at 1-1, but the Jayhawks claimed the next three singles matches, at No. 3, 1 and 4, to win the match 4-1. Gorches led 3-1 in the third set at No. 5 when the match was halted.
The Tigers now face the non-advancing team from this afternoon’s match between No. 9 Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech on Saturday, Jan. 28. First serve for the match is scheduled for 9 a.m. CT (10 a.m. ET) at the Currey Tennis Center in Nashville, Tenn.
