Clemson, SC – The 23rd-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets defeated the #18 Clemson Tigers, 4-3, in women’s tennis action on Thursday afternoon. The Tigers drop to 5-6 overall this season and 1-1 in the ACC. The Yellow Jackets improve their record to 6-2 and 1-0 in conference play.
Julie Coin won her 10th consecutive singles match for the Tigers with a victory over #20 Kristi Miller at the No.1 position, 6-1, 6-2. She is now 19-2 overall and 16-0 when facing a ranked opponent. Romy Farah also won her singles match for Clemson as she defeated Kelly Anderson by a score of 7-6(5), 6-3.
Georgia Tech won matches at the third, fourth, fifth and sixth singles slots for the victory. Dasha Potapova defeated Maria Brito at No.3, 7-5, 6-4, while Alison Silverio won the No.4 contest over Carol Salge, 6-2, 6-0. In the No. 5 match-up, Clemson’s Richele LeSaldo fell to Lindsay Shosho, 6-4, 6-2, and Ioana Paun dropped the No.6 match against the Yellow Jacket’s Kacie Anson by a score of 6-2, 6-1.
Clemson won the doubles point with victories at the No.1 and No.3 positions. Coin and Farah upset the 11th-ranked team of Miller and Silverio at the top slot, 8-3, and Paun and Salge defeated Anson and Potapova at No.3, 9-7. Georgia Tech’s team of Anderson and Shosho won the No.2 match-up over Brito and LeSaldo, 8-3.
The Tigers’ next match will be a home contest on Saturday morning at 10:30 am against the South Alabama Jaguars.
