CLEMSON, S.C. – Despite a match-high 15 kills by Clemson redshirt sophomore Brooke Bailey, the Clemson volleyball team fell in four sets (25-12, 13-25, 17-25, 19-25) to Wake Forest in Jervey Gym Friday evening. With the win, the Demon Deacons improved to 10-19 overall and 5-12 in ACC play, while Clemson dropped to 15-14 and 6-10 in conference matchups.

“I thought Wake Forest played really hard tonight,” said Clemson head coach Michaela Franklin. “We came out and did a great job of taking care of the ball on our side of the net. Then, we just got a little high-error and weren’t as efficient nor were we executing the way we’re capable of doing.”

Clemson got off to a hot start, dominating the Demon Deacons in the first set, 25-12, which is the Tigers’ largest margin of victory in a single set this season. Bailey totaled eight kills in the opening set on 14 attempts to hit. 500. Additionally, freshman defensive specialist Torie Frederick tallied six of her 12 digs in set No. 1.

After swapping benches, Wake Forest came out swinging in the second set, taking the first six points as well as the last six points to win the set, 25-13. Coming out of the break, the Tigers could not find regain their rhythm as Wake Forest went on to take sets three and four 25-17 and 25-19, respectively.

Up next, Clemson travels to Virginia Tech (14-13, 5-10 ACC) on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m., for the first of two remaining regular-season matches. Wednesday’s matchup against the Hokies is slated to stream on ACC Network Extra.
