Tigers Fall 4-3 to Charlotte

Clemson, S.C. — Despite a late surge that put the Tigers up 3-2 with two singles matches remaining, the Clemson men’s tennis team fell 4-3 to Charlotte 49ers on Saturday afternoon.

Charlotte secured the point after going 2-1 in doubles play. Senior pair Gabriel Diaz Freire and Pierre-Louis Dodens took their line one matchup 6-3.

In singles, Diaz Freire picked up a straight set victory at the No. 1 position to knot the team score at 1-1. Down 1-2, No. 3 Teodor Giusca evened the score at 2-all after defeating Leonardo Menezes, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1. Dodens gave the Tigers their first lead of the match at 3-2 after batting back from a first-set loss to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 but it wasn’t enough for Clemson to pull out the victory.

Of Note

  • It marks the first time in program history that Charlotte has defeated Clemson on the road.
  • Diaz Freire and Dodens each went undefeated on the day.
  • Dodens carries his winning streak to eight matches.

Up Next: The Tigers are back in the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility on Friday, Feb. 7 when they are set to host Princeton at 6 p.m.
