CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson men’s tennis team finished off the weekend strong as they took down the Liberty Flames, 5-2, ending their perfect weekend at Duckworth Family Tennis Center.
The Flames got off to a hot start as they saw victories on Courts 1 and 2 to take the doubles point, leaving the Tigers with some work to do in singles.
Clemson rallied from being down on almost every court to pull out five wins from Teodor Giusca, Jorge Plans Gonzalez, Spencer Whitaker, Yizhou Liu and Matt Pitts. Giusca, Plans Gonzalez and Whitaker all battled in three sets to pick up their respective wins.
“We had a fantastic weekend of tennis,” said Head Coach Robbie Weiss. “We went 20-4 in singles which is something to be really proud of. We started off a bit flat today with our tennis and energy, but the boys never quit and finished incredibly well, taking five of six singles matches and pulled out three tough 3 set matches to close out the victory. The team has been consistently working hard, day in and day out, and we are starting to see that hard work pay off. I could not ask for a better group of guys and truly feel blessed to be able to coach them.”
Next up, Clemson travels to compete in Regionals in Cary, N.C. the week of October 22-26.
