Clemson, SC – The Tiger women’s tennis team, ranked 16th in the ITA poll, won a close match on Monday afternoon over #18 Harvard, 4-3. Senior Julie Coin, ranked fifth in the singles poll, defeated #104 Elsa O’Riain at the top singles position to remain undefeated in dual action at 7-0. She bettered her overall record to 16-2, while Clemson improved to 4-4 for the season. Harvard fell to 5-2 overall.
The Crimson won the No.2 and No.3 doubles contests to take the doubles point. At No. 2, Harvard’s team of Celia Durkin and Melissa Anderson defeated the 21st-ranked tandem of Julie Coin and Romy Farah edged Elsa O’Riain and Stephanie Schnitter, 8-7(4).
In singles competition, #114 Brito won her match at No.3 over #93 Mukundan, 6-4, 6-2. Alvarez defeated Alexis Marire at No.4 (6-2, 6-2), and Salge took the No.5 contest against Wang, 6-3, 6-3. Harvard won the No.2 and No.6 match-ups as #88 Farah fell to #123 Durkin by a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, and Anderson defeated the Tigers’ Ioana Paun, 6-4, 6-1, respectively.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, Feb. 25 when they face Virginia Commonwealth in Richmond, VA. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 PM.
