Tigers Earn Singles, Doubles Wins in Day One of Gator Fall Invite

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Clemson Tigers earned singles and doubles victories as they took on University of Central Florida on the first day of the Gator Fall Invite. Two pairings recorded wins in doubles while Matt Pitts and Trey Stitchcomb garnered victories in singles.

“Today was a great experience for our guys but especially for our freshmen. They are getting a good taste against good competition of what dual matches will be like this upcoming spring. Nice to see overall that our doubles was strong today and continued from our last event. Our guys learned some more lessons in singles today and look to take advantage of some opportunities better tomorrow,” Head Coach Brandon Wagner said.

In doubles, the successful duo of Marko Mesarovic and Pitts defeated UCF’s Paul Colin and Mehdi Benchakroun, 6-4. The Mesarovic, Pitts pairing is coming off recent success at ITA Regionals as the duo advanced to the quarter finals.

Securing another doubles victory for the Tigers was the pairing of Noa Vukadin and Max Smith who won their match, 7-5 over UCF’s Lleyton Cronje and Santiago Giamichelle.

In singles, Pitt earned the win over Benchakroun in two sets as the second and final set went into a tie-breaker. Pitts came out on top with a 6-3, 7-6(6) win over his opponent. Stinchcomb also recorded his singles victory in two sets as he defeated UCF’s Emilio Sanchez (7-5, 6-3).

Up next, the Clemson Tigers will compete in another round of hidden duals tomorrow, October 28th as they prepare for the second day of the Gator Fall Invite. Clemson is set to take on Florida in the next round of duals.
