SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Clemson suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Syracuse on Saturday night at SU Soccer Stadium. The Tigers (10-4, 4-3 ACC) and Orange (8-6-2, 2-4-1 ACC) played evenly, but a first-half Syracuse goal forced Clemson to play from behind and ultimately was enough to hand the Tigers their fourth loss of the season.
In a back and forth first half, it was the Orange that struck first on a well-placed right-footed strike that found the corner of George Marks’s net. Marks tallied five total saves on the evening. Syracuse took the 1-0 advantage into the halftime locker room despite getting outshot 9-5 in the first 45 minutes of play.
The Tigers battled valiantly for an equalizer throughout the second half, but the Orange defense held strong until the 86th minute when Syracuse secured a second goal, all but putting the game away.
Up next, the Tigers return home for their last inter-conference match against FIU on Tuesday, October 26 at 7 p.m. The match at Historic Riggs Field will be streamed on ACCNX.
