Tigers Down North Florida 5-2 Friday

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team won the doubles point, and earned singles wins at No. 3, 6, 1 and 2 singles, in that order, to claim a 5-2 victory over North Florida on Friday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. With the win, the Tigers improved to 4-3 on the season, while the Ospreys fell to 4-3 with the loss.

The Tigers claimed the doubles point for the third-straight match by virtue of wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Tristen Dewar and Ally Miller-Krasilnikov worked quickly, defeating their UNF opponent 6-1 at No. 2. Joana Eidukonyte and Daniela Ruiz clinched the point with a 6-2 victory at No. 3. It was the third-straight win for both Tiger doubles duos.

Eidukonyte came out firing at No. 3 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0 to give Clemson a quick 2-0 lead. After a loss at No. 5 singles, Jenny Moinard was the next Clemson player to win, at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 7-6(4). North Florida won at No. 4 singles to move to within one point in the team score, 3-2, before Broomfield clinched the team victory with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1. Navarro then pulled out a three-set win, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2 to finish of the Clemson win with a team score of 5-2. Broomfield and Navarro have both now won three straight singles matches.

The Tigers complete their three-match home stand on Sunday, Feb. 28 when they host NC State. First serve is set for 12 p.m. at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
