Tigers Down Georgia Southern, The Citadel

Clemson, S.C. — The Clemson men’s tennis team improves to 4-1 on the season after downing Georgia Southern (2-4) and The Citadel (0-5) on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers dominated doubles, seizing both opportunities on the day. In singles, Gabriel Diaz Freire, Yizhou Liu and Pierre-Louis Dodens each earned two victories. Additionally, junior Jaxon Wiley made his dual match debut against The Citadel.

The Tigers swept the Eagles to earn the doubles point as No. 2 Jacob Jahn/Liu and No. 3 Carlos Kelaidis/Teodor Giusca each took their matches 6-2. Liu and senior Gabriel Diaz Freire put Clemson up 3-0 after defeating each of their opponents in straight sets. Georgia Southern managed to amass two points before senior Dodens clinched the match for the Tigers in a 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 decision over Valentin Dun.

Clemson 7, The Citadel 0

Clemson swept the Bulldogs in its second match of the day. The Tigers won all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Liu clinched the match for the Tigers in single with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Gavin Stewart. In his dual match debut, Wiley defeated Jack Pyritz 7-5, 6-4.

OF NOTE: 

  • Dodens and Liu remain undefeated in singles through five matches.
  • In doubles, Jacob Jahn/Liu are 5-0 from the No. 2 position this season.
  • Liu earned his first victory at the No. 1 position this season against the Citadel.
  • Jahn and Dodens improve to 8-2 in their last 10 matches.

UP NEXT: The Tigers are back in Duckworth again next weekend when they host Charlotte at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
